Visiting Gigi in Florida!!

February 9-13, 2008

Ellie and Anne-Marie riding the bus from the Parking lot to the Denver Airport.

Ellie's first time through security. After all our talk of staying close it upset her a little that they made her go through the metal detector alone.

Then at DIA we got to ride the train to get to our concourse.

Before boarding the plane we ate a little McDonalds with a nice view of a huge jet.

Then we boarded our plane.

As the sun set we were headed for Florida and Ellie watched Flinstones.

Finally at Gigis at midnight we had a snack and went to bed.

The next morning we were off to the pool.

We had a great time in Grandma's pool.

Ellie thought it was so neat that it is always summer in Florida.

Ellie decided that we needed to play mermaids and use our snorkels.

The next day we took a trip to the beach.

The beach we visited was a little public piece of Fort Meyers Beach. It had a fun play ground a great sand.

We built sand castles until the tide came in and wrecked them.

I buried Ellie up to her neck in the sand, turns out she's not a fan of that idea.

Then I made her some sand legs. She's actually standing upright.

Then I turned her into a mermaid. She thought that was pretty cool.

Even though it was February the beach was still pretty busy.

We walked out on a pier and saw some pelicans. They were trying to steal fish from the fishermen.

Aren't they cute?

We ended up renting a Toyota Highlander that worked out really well. Fun car.

Back at Gigi's Ellie and I took a walk. She liked to stop and lay in the grass.

The weather was perfect.

We checked out all the flowers.

Some of them were really brilliant colors.

After the walk we found Gigi and Anne-Marie waiting for the evening flyover of birds settling in for the night.

And right on cue they came.

It was a lovely evening.

The next day we visited a place called the Imaginarium. Kind of an aquarium and kids learning center.

You can "pet" the rays there, though Ellie opted not to.

The aquariums had some cool fish.

One tank had several fish from the movie Finding Nemo.

Ellie got to pet an African Spiny Mouse.

They had lots of science activities to try out too.

Ellie fed some geese and fish there.

There was a nice garden area with colorful plants.

Later we went to a restaurant that served a beverage known as the Kids Cocktail. It's sprite with 8 cherries in it and a little umbrella. I think Ellie liked it.

The restaurant was set right on a dock and had a nice view of the water and boats.

Afterwards we went out and looked at some of the boats.

We also stopped at an Orange juice factory and got some free samples.

Then it was back to Gigi's for another swim before we had to leave.

We got Ellie a snorkle, but she didn't ever try it.

Daddy did though!

Anne-Marie and Gigi just watched this time.

Back at the Fort Meyers airport we were all ready to go.

My two cute girls boarding the plane.

We finally got home after midnight and Ellie had had enough of Florida, at least for a little while.
